Police and fire at scene of car that has crashed into trees near bridge
POLICE and the fire service are at the scene of a car that has crashed into trees near a bridge in the Bradford district. Emergency services are at Briggate this evening, which is just off Valley Road, in Shipley. A car looks to have come off the road and collided with trees and folliage near the bridge that crosses over a walkway. Traffic is still able to pass on Briggate.

False fire alarms costing Cleveland Fire Service £225k a year
Steps to reduce the number of false alarms costing a fire service more than £225,000 a year are being actioned, fire chiefs have Fire Brigade said it was looking at several key actions to reduce the number of false alarm activations which resulted in "unnecessary demand on our resources."A false alarm is defined as a signal resulting from a cause or causes other than a fire.A report from brigade bosses noted the Unwanted Fire Signals (UwFS) Policy had some initial success after its introduction in 2017, but the number of this type of call had "steadily increased over recent years". The increase was due to changes in legislation, meaning more businesses were now covered by automatic fire detection systems, the report added: "UwFS incurs significant costs to the brigade of over £225,000 and a loss in productivity of around 10 days per year." Following a brigade review, several key actions and recommendations have been set includes not responding to automatic false alarms for non-domestic premises unless supported by a confirmation call from the site or "double knock" activation - where more than one device has brigade will also implement mandatory call challenge fields in the new control system and conduct engagement to ensure clear communication and understanding of the revised will include a three month period of communication and engagement with local businesses that may be affected by the number of UwFS will then be monitored over the next year with a full evaluation of the new process taking place one year from implementation. South Yorkshire fire service praised after making improvements
A fire service has been praised for making improvements following its latest Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (SYFRS) was rated good in five areas and adequate in a further six after an inspection by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue was previously given a rating of 'requires improvement' for its effectiveness and efficiency in 2022, but did win praise for how well it looked after its Kirby, chief fire officer at SYFRS, said he was pleased with the findings but admitted: "We also have more work to get to where we want to be as a service". Michelle Skeer, HM Inspector of Fire & Rescue Services, said she was "pleased" with the progress the service had made since 2022."It needs to improve in some areas to provide a consistently good service," she latest inspection, carried out in 2024 and earlier this year, rated the service good at preventing fires and other risks, promoting the right values and culture and ensuring fairness and promoting also said the service was good at making best use of its resources and future affordability. 'Not quite there' SYFRS was rated adequate for understanding the risk of fire and other emergencies, protecting the public through fire regulation, responding to fires and other emergencies, responding to major and multi-agency incidents, getting the right people with the right skills and managing performance and developing Kirby said: "Clearly, there is still room for improvement. "We aspire to be one of the country's leading fire and rescue services. Based on these results, we are not quite there yet."But overall, it's clear that the hard work people across the service have put in to improve our performance since our last inspection has paid off."We will now look to address the remaining areas for improvement which inspectors identified, as we strive towards a better service for all those we serve and employ." 19 injured as fireworks show goes awry at fair in Germany
At least 19 people have been injured, four seriously, after a fireworks show went awry at a fair in the German city of Dusseldorf, authorities said. Emergency services were deployed after the incident late on Friday at the Rheinkirmes event along the Rhine river, where images from the scene showed fireworks going off nearly at ground level along its banks. A child was among the injured, the DPA news agency reported. Dusseldorf fire service said police were investigating the cause of the accident. The 10-day fair features amusement park rides, drone and fireworks shows, and other entertainment by hundreds of staff along the left bank of the Rhine opposite the city's historic district.
